Riverside High School agriculture teachers have long sought to have a Livestock Facility on the campus of RHS so that students could gain a more in-depth and hands-on understanding of large animal and veterinary science. Much like the greenhouse for Plant Science, a livestock facility allows students to work with livestock while in school and get to gain valuable skills for their futures.
This was a project that began in early 2021 with approval from the Board of Education to begin fundraising to construct the facility. The idea behind the project was that it would allow the students, staff, parents, and community to come together to literally "raise a barn." In under 12 months, the full amount of money for the cost of the project was raised, along with a grant from the State Department of Agriculture to provide what was needed.
Clearing and dirt work began the first week of June 2022 and in less than two months, the frame Is built and awaiting its metal exterior and roof. Students and staff at Riverside High School will be working on the finishing touches to complete the barn construction with a projected completion date for the first week of August.
Riverside High School and the CTE department would like to thank the community and all of the donors who made this barn possible. We know it will be well used to educate Decatur County's students for years to come.
