The STEAM Lab at DCMS opened for the 23-24 school year and serves students in 5th - 8th grade. Ms. Jill Farlow, STEAM Teacher and STEAM Coordinator for the district, hit the ground running with this new, state of the art program. The lab, which was remodeled and furnished with a grant through CTE, is state of the art and includes equipment from all of the different CTE programs offered at RHS. The students enjoy experimenting, working with different types of machines, and designing their own projects. Currently, Ms. Jill is working on some very meaningful and cutting edge projects with her students. Fifth grade students invented their own board/table games then played each other 's games to culminate the projects. Sixth grade students are working with robotics and different geometric shapes, and seventh and eighth grade students are participating in Forensics 101. These students are working to identify unknown substances through microscopic analysis and chemical reactivity and fiber analysis, using hand held microscopes. We are very fortunate to have Ms. Jill and this state of the art lab to offer these experiences to our students!
