Decatur County Save the Children GIK and Riverside High School’s Panther’s Outreach Program (POP) Community Service Group partnered with Decatur County Coordinated School Health to host ‘Pet A Pup’ Day on February 15th, 2023, at RHS. A litter of pups was brought in from the local Wags and Whiskers Animal Shelter for staff and students to pet. Mrs. Jessica Hollingsworth with Decatur County Coordinated School Health was gathering survey data to establish a need for an emotional support animal to help create a positive school climate. The Riverside High School Ayers Foundation partnered with the POP group to encourage students throughout the week to bring donations for the shelter. Additionally, in a partnership to promote literacy, Decatur County Save the Children GIK donated Nala and Simba, and Clifford the Big Red Dog books to be given to young children who visit the ‘Pet a Pup’ event and the Wags and Whiskers Animal Shelter. A great time was had by all…. especially the pups who received much love!
