We are both humbled and thrilled to shine the spotlight on one of our outstanding educators, Mrs. Vickie Tate. Recently, Mrs. Tate demonstrated extraordinary compassion and selflessness by becoming a stem cell donor for someone battling cancer. This is a person Ms. Vickie doesn’t know and will likely never meet.
.
When asked about the journey, Mrs. Vickie stated, “It’s not the easiest process, but it’s nothing compared to someone who’s fighting cancer. I’m just praying this is the first step toward this lady hearing the word remission.”
.
Mrs. Tate will soon be flying to Texas to complete this life-saving procedure, exemplifying the spirit of kindness and generosity that we value in our community. Her actions remind us that Decatur County not only employs top-notch educators but also exceptional individuals who go above and beyond to make a difference in the lives of others.
.
In addition to prayers for her journey as well as the stem cell recipient’s battle with cancer, Ms. Vickie requests everyone to sign up through bethematch.org. Every day, hundreds of people in the United States are diagnosed with blood cancer, such as leukemia or lymphoma. Be the Match places donors in a database and matches them with patients needing a life-saving blood stem cell transplants.
.
Mrs. Vickie is married to Tyler Tate and has two children, Landon and Ava. Beginning this fall, she will teach 7th Grade Science at Decatur County Middle School.
.
We applaud Mrs. Tate for her remarkable act of humanity and inspiring us all.
